When a local dog named Yogi suffered a serious injury, his family was left with a tough choice.

Yogi took a big fall recently, breaking one of his legs.

The options his family were left with were a surgery at $3500 or amputation at $3000 or to put Yogi down at $240. The dog's owner Amanda said the burden of this decision was too much and offered the dog to a needy home through the Airdrie Moms Elite Facebook group, that's when things changed.

"They weren't going to let us give our dog away or put him down. They started a fundraiser, I had a bunch of women go into the vet on Main Street and they had donated money there and I had two wonderful ladies who drove around Airdrie collecting bottles."

Through the initiatives of these women, $3800 was raised, which meant Yogi would be able to go in for the surgery, which he successfully did last Friday (April 7th.)

Amanda says the support of this community group was overwhelming.

"Honestly, I don't have the right word to describe how grateful we are, I basically broke down and I started crying and I called my fiance and I told him what was happening and he basically broke down on the phone. We are very grateful."

She hopes to pay it forward by organizing a "Yogi Party", a fundraising event soon to be held at Nose Creek Park to help others and their pets who need it.
