The Calgary Humane Society are asking for the public's help after a disturbing discovery in Northeast Calgary.

Back on October 27, the Humane Society were informed of a Boston Terrier that was found deceased and left in a kennel behind a dumpster outside a hotel in Vista Heights.

"It was emaciated, it had abscessing teeth, over grown nails," said Brad Nichols, Animal Cruelty Investigator with the Humane Society. "Regardless of the cause of death, certainly this dog required some veterinary care for some time prior to the ditching of the body."

Nichols said they're reaching out for any information from people in Calgary, Airdrie and the outlying communities. He said they haven't ruled out the possibility that the dog's owner could be from outside Calgary.

"We generally come to believe that when you're ditching an animal or anything really of criminal intent, that's probably fairly local. Certainly with the areas outlying Calgary, that's a possibility too."

Nichols said it's always hard when the Humane Society deals with issues of pets that have been neglected so heavily.

"We see our fair share of neglected animals and this is one of them and the neglect is severe to the point where it would warrant charges. We're looking to find accountability for this animal."

The Calgary Humane Society did obtain a photo of a vehicle they believe belongs to the owner who dumped the dog outside the hotel and are hoping anyone with information will contact them.
