A driver and two passengers were arrested on Friday, September 2, during the Tour of Alberta race that passed through Cochrane.

At approximately 1:30 pm, the Cochrane RCMP stopped a vehicle that was traveling on Highway 1A, 1km west of Cochrane after the highway had been shut down for the race.

After the vehicle had been pulled over, the RCMP noted that the driver appeared to be intoxicated as well as the two passengers.

A 19 year-old from Stoney Nakoda First Nation was arrested and transported to the Cochrane RCMP detachment where his breath sample was nearly double the legal limit.

The two passengers, a 19 year-old male and 16 year-old male were also arrested and transported to the Cochrane RCMP detachment for causing a disturbance and being drunk in a public place.

Cst. Jennifer Brewer said that both passengers were released without charges, but the driver has been charged with impaired driving and will appear in Cochrane Court when a date can be set.
