With Christmas coming up fast, Samaritan’s Purse would like to remind locals to donate a shoebox filled with various goodies for underprivileged kids all across the world in developing nations.

Media Relations Manager Frank King reminds locals they can drop off their shoeboxes as it gets later into the season at the Calgary Processing Centre at 20 Hopewell Way NE right up to the afternoon of December 31.

However, King says if residents do not have the time to pack a box, there are still other ways to donate. “If folks don’t have the time to pack shoeboxes, they can actually go to packabox.ca and do it online! It’s kind of like shopping on Amazon.”

If you’re still considering packing a shoebox and don’t exactly know what to put in, King says to stick to the “big three”.

“We’re always looking for the big three and that is school supplies, hygiene items, and toys. Those are the great things that are really going to make life easier for children in developing nations, they’re just wonderful.”

However, with boxes going all over the world, shoebox packers should be aware of what not to stuff in the box.

“The things that folks should avoid putting in their boxes (are) toothpaste, any kind for food items, any kind of fake guns or war type stuff. A lot of these shoeboxes go to countries where kids have been traumatized by war and so we don't want to obviously exacerbate. Please avoid putting those kinds of things in your shoeboxes.”

The boxes will be going out to countries in Central America, the Caribbean, Ukraine and also several French-speaking nations in Western Africa.
