Cochrane RCMP responded to a call on Monday night (February 6) of a semi tractor trailer that jackknifed and rolled on Highway 1 at Hermitage Road Scales, blocking the entire eastbound lane.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff says upon investigation it was more than poor road conditions that caused the incident.

"The driver of the tractor trailer unit was arrested for impaired driving, upon being taken to the detachment he provided breath samples almost three times the legal limit. He blew 230 and 220 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milligrams of blood and the legal limit is 80."

Highway 1 was temporarily impassable with motorists diverted onto Highway 1A, as RCMP cleared the scene.

A 42 year old man from British Columbia will be charged and face the Cochrane courts.

Savinkoff adds due to inclement weather there was a spike in accidents the past few days and reminds motorists to keep their speed in check.

"Speed limit of 100 or 110 km/hr does not necessarily mean that you drive that in poor weather conditions those are for ideal driving conditions and people have to adjust their speeds accordingly."
