The new leader of the Official Opposition for Alberta politics, now needs a seat in the legislature.

Just hours after Jason Kenney was voted leader of the United Conservative Party, a member of his caucus has offered his seat.

Longtime MLA Dave Rodney resigned in the riding of Calgary-Lougheed so that Kenney could run in a by-election.

Rodney was first elected to the Legislature as a member of the former PC Party back in 2004.

Kenney plans to meet with Premier Rachel Notley soon and expects that she'll honour the tradition of calling a by-election once a seat has been vacated.
