Yesterday afternoon (May 25th), two local non-profits received a big boost from the City.

Airdrie POWER and The Health Benefits Co-Operative each received $670, which was raised from the recent Leadership Prayer Breakfast.

Tom Feasby, CEO of the Health Co-op, says the support will improve more than just health care in the City.

"This is a grassroots movement, so it's gratifying to see this kind of support...What's different about this project is we're going to be focusing on the determinants, the things that make us healthy individually and as a community."

As part of the next steps to kick starting the co-op, Feasby hopes to hear from groups including Airdrie POWER.

"We want to engage with all of them, we want to hear their input. We want to hear from the Police, we want to hear from schools, the churches, anyone who might have an interest in or impact on health in the broadest sense. Then we're going to be engaging with the broad community as a whole."

Both groups were joined by local realtors Margo and Martin Durocher who have helped organize the Leadership Prayer Breakfast for the past five years.
