Airdrie experienced 78km/h winds last night, but that was nothing compared to Red Deer who suffered significant damage after the wind storm that blew through.

The City of Red Deer has declared a local state of emergency, which will allow them to access resources from other levels of government.

Reports indicate as much as 35% of Red Deer may be currently experiencing power outages.

People out near Sylvan Lake appeared to get hit hard as well, as power is out for a few thousand people near Benalto and Eckville.

Residents of Rocky Mountain House are also seeing some power outages, although it doesn't look as bad as the Sylvan Lake and Red Deer area.

Power outages are also causing issues in Innisfail, Gull Lake, and a few spots between Lacombe and Ponoka along the QE2.
