An Airdrie woman is getting recognition for the good work she does in the community.

Sylvia Proudfoot has volunteered with Kids Up Front, an organization that uses donated tickets to provide experiences like museum visits and hockey games to kids that might not otherwise have them.

"If a corporation has donated tickets for a private suite, Kids Up Front would then match that with one of the two hundred organizations they work with in Calgary and the area. And then I'm the host, so my job is to meet the kids, to introduce them to the suite life, and to make sure the popcorn doesn't run out."

Proudfoot says she loves working with the organization because it connects two of her passions: working with kids, and sports.

"I wanted to find something that fit that criteria, that had sports and kids, and also fit my crazy travel schedule. And Kids Up Front was just the perfect match."

Proudfoot is only in her second year volunteering with the organization, so she was surprised when someone at the organization nominated her for Mr. Mike's Deeds Well Done community program. She says when she originally received an email saying she had been nominated, she though it was a spam message.

"I was so surprised. I don't usually win contests so when you get an email message saying, 'Hi, you've won! Send us some information', you wonder. But as soon as I opened it I realized it was the real thing."

Through the program, Mr. Mike's will donate $500 to Kids Up Front on behalf of Proudfoot.
