Creative Airdrie are looking for students who want to pursue a creative endeavour in their post secondary education to award them with a scholarship in memory of a founding member of their board.

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2017 Karin Simpson Memorial Scholarship.  Jennifer Benner, Vice-Chair of Creative Airdrie, says Simpson was a founding member of the Society who brought a strong passion for the arts in Airdrie and passed away in 2014.  "The Creative Airdrie board decided to create a scholarship in her honour that we would award annually to any student in the Rocky View school division that's planning on going into a creative post-secondary program."

According to Benner, that can include many fields.  "It can encompass all sorts of things.  Whether it's music, visual arts, fashion.  Anything that would have sort of a creative edge to it."

The $500 scholarship is awarded annually.  The inaugural scholarship was presented to to Katie McCann and in 2016 it was awarded to Connor Wilde.

Benner says they're hoping to create a life long relationship between arts and culture and youth.  "One way to do that is to help out where we can, by helping youth to further their education in the arts.  We typically ask what field they're going into and why it's important to them."

Any students who fit the criteria for the scholarship are encouraged to go online here before June 1st.  The winner will be announced June 15th.
