A new Government program is looking to fill more high paying jobs with Albertans instead of Temporary Foreign Workers.

Minister of Labour Christina Gray was joined by Federal Minister of Employment Patricia Hajdu on Wednesday (April 19th) in announcing the Employer Liaison Service.

This pilot project is designed to make sure certain industries give priority to Albertans seeking jobs before going to Foreign workers.

29 business will now fall under this Liaison service including civil and mechanical engineers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and construction millwrights.

Abigail Gonzalez-Kube with Rocky View Employment Services says this announcement is a huge boost to many locals still seeking work.

"A lot of our Youth especially or mature workers are being displaced so by putting Albertans first, a lot of those doors will open to those two demographics."

Gonzalez-Kube says the changes could make it tough for employers who might be faced with tough decisions.

"(if) I have a couple foreign workers, what will that mean for me as a business owners, having obviously to hire Albertan workers for any of the positions."
