2015 Miss Teen Airdrie, Mackenzie Murphy, has continued her mission to advocate for mental health and bullying issues which has earned her a new award.

On Thursday, October 6, Murphy was honoured with the Donald S. Ethell Youth Award by the Lieutenant Governor, Lois Mitchell, at the True Awards hosted in Edmonton at Government House.

Murphy was honoured to be able to not only meet the Governor but also an Edmonton Alderman and the Associate Minister for Human Rights, Garnett Genuis.

"There was so many cool people and it really gave me the opportunity to share my message and learn about theirs," said Murphy.

In her last year of high school, Murphy is trying to answer the question of where will she go from here with her advocacy campaign.

"Right now I'm hopefully going to be raising money for a few different local charities in Airdrie and also different organizations like Dare to Care, and working with other mental health advocates to fight the mental health stigma."

Murphy will be participating in her next pageant in the coming months and is hopeful to be able to use her new title to create more awareness for mental health.
