On Thursday (January 26), Brian Jean announced via video that if a push to unite conservatives under one party in Alberta was successful, he is willing to step down as the leader of the Wildrose party and seek leadership of the new party.

Airdrie MLA Angela Pitt says she supports a move to unite the right, because she believes it's what her constituents want.

"Absolutely I am, because I really feel like that's what I'm hearing from the people that contact myself and the ones that I reach out with, the people of Airdrie and the businesses in this community."

In his video, Jean also said the Wildrose party will begin the process of consulting their members about a unification movement. Pitt says local events are already on the horizon.

"We're just gathering up some details today for a series of Airdrie town hall events. I want to get out as much information as I possibly can, and I want to hear as much as I possibly can."

Pitt says anyone interested in attending those town hall events can stay posted by visiting her Facebook page, where she will have more information soon.
