Montreal City Council voted to ban pitbulls Tuesday, September 27th.

The decision has been met with outrage all the way here in Airdrie, with social media leading the charge.

"They were bred to be a fighting dog, they were bred to provide entertainment in a fighting aspect, which is unfortunate." said Christina Holland, local Animal Technologist.

Montreal residents will not be able to buy or adopt pitbulls in the city as of Monday, October 3rd.

A similar ban was proposed to Airdrie City Council back in January, but was shot down.

After her dog was put down following a pitbull attack, Airdrie resident Bonnie Baldwin supported the ban.

"At the end of the day there's only two questions that come to mind. What if it really was your child? You have to ask yourself that, and the second question is what are we waiting for?"

Council believed that any dog attack can be the result of an irresponsible owner.
