In December the new multi sport facility in Cochrane fell victim to theft.

Suzanne Gaida, Town of Cochrane, Senior Manager of Community Services, says when contractors arrived on site they found trailers broken into and damage caused to the electrical system.

"Total material taken was valued at $3000 but a concern to us is that all those lines which were the main lines supplying electricity to the new part of the facility need to be re-pulled. So that means they need to be taken out and re-pulled from the source and the cost of that work is estimated to be between $50,000 and $100,000."

Due to the theft the Town has now hired after hours security which unfortunately isn't covered by their insurance.

"This is the time in the project where we have lots going on and lots of product on site, different types of product and lots of finishing stuff which is potentially worth something to somebody; so we have someone on site 24 hours a day whether it's our workers or security."

RCMP are still investigating the incident and Gaida believe they don't have any suspects at this time.
