How do you thank a member of the Calgary Police for his service?

In this case, a couple of lumps of sugar should do it.

Maverick, a Calgary Police Service Horse (PSH), who spent four years with the Mounted Unit, hung up his saddle last week, retiring from the service.

Maverick is an 11-year-old American Quarter Horse gelding who stands an impressive 16 hands-high.  Maverick is originally from Airdrie and was with CPS since 2016.

During his tenure with the force, Mavericks had a busy and productive time.  His duties included operational patrol, community relations, and police recruit graduations.  PSH Maverick has also assisted in the arrest of several armed suspects and helped search teams to locate missing persons and find evidence.  One of Maverick's more dicey assignments could have been walking in the Stampede Parade as thousands of spectators watched.

CPS thanked Maverick for his service to, both them and the people of Calgary, on their social media platforms.

The Facebook post has over 1,000 likes and dozens of positive comments.

PSH Maverick is now headed for, what hopefully will be, a lengthy retirement in a southern Alberta pasture.
