Multi-family residential buildings in Airdrie will soon receive on site recycling.

Upcoming amendments to the Waste Bylaw will make recycling programs mandatory for all apartments, duplexes, condos, etc.

"With the expanding population in Airdrie, it's just important that everybody has that access." said Tracey Pagenhart, Multi-family Recycling Education Coordinator, City of Airdrie.

Building owners and property managers will be responsible for the programs, and making sure that they meet the needs of tenants. However, they will be able to choose who they recycle with, depending on their specific needs.

The changes will be effective as of January 2018, in an effort to increase Airdrie's waste diversion.

"With the more convenient services available, people are more likely to recycle." said Pagenhart.

Building managers can attend information sessions with the City on October 27th, and November 1st.
