Airdrie could lay claim to the next Miss Universe Canada.

20 year old Kansas King has been accepted to participate in the competition in the hopes of representing not only her country, but her city.

"You look through the older ones, like Miss Universe (Canada) 2014 and you see Calgary in there...it's Calgary, Edmonton and there's been Strathmore so I think it would be cool to actually have Airdrie on there."

King is a graduate of Bert Church High School and says her experiences there have helped prepare her for the competition.

"When I was in Cheerleading, I did competitions there in front of a lot of people. I was in advanced acting so I was in plays. I have had a lot of experience in front of people."

King says she's most anxious about the interview portion that comes with Miss Universe.

"It's going to be a difficult task but it's kind of out of my comfort zone and I'm kind of excited for that...I'm really excited to get this new experience and meet new people."
