The Town of Crossfield is inching closer to bringing Fiber Optic Internet to their homes.

Back in March, the town encouraged it's residents to push for the service from Alberta provider AXIA.

"If they achieve that target, AXIA will do a full scale economic analysis of the viability of the project and if they deem it viable, they will go in and install fiber optics to most, if not all of our town." says Town Manager Ken Bosman

The provider set a target saying that at least 30% of the town would need to respond for them to consider installing Fiber Optic.

"We've actually hit the target that AXIA had set for us," says Bosman, "They're actually very surprised how quickly we hit it. I think they're actually scrambling a little bit to catcu up on their end."

Although Crossfield does have a couple of providers in place, Bosman says they needed to look ahead to the future of their growing town.

"It's broadly considered to be the future of communication. Having an additional, competitive choice within our community will drive down pricing and provide better service to our citizens."

With the target met and, in fact, well exceeded, Bosman expects a decision from AXIA soon, so that work can begin on starting the service.
