City Council has endorsed the Environmental Advisory Board to support an enhanced recycling program at City of Airdrie public facilities and parks.

Aligning with the 2012 Waste Management Strategy, this recycling program ties into the implementation of organics and recycling programs that have been introduced to private dwellings.

To better understand the types of waste that are being disposed of in public facilities, a waste audit was conducted in August at Genesis Place, Chinook Winds Skate Park, and the Town and Country Centre.

The Town and Country Centre was used as a pilot facility to monitor the implementation of a recycling program due to the venue's large amount of organic waste.

Beginning in late November, the Nose Creek Concession will be outfitted with recycling bins, and all staff will be educated on the materials that will need to be recycled.

Phase 2 will occur in April 2017, outfitting the rest of Airdrie's public facilities and parks with the appropriate recycling bins and sorting stations.

The overall cost for phase 2 is expected to be approximately $202,600 plus the cost of shipping.
