A pedestrian has died after being hit on Highway 1 during the early morning hours on Wednesday, November 9.

A vehicle was heading east bound on the Trans Canada near Hwy 22, when a male pedestrian attempted to cross the.

Cochrane RCMP responded to the call shortly after midnight. Upon arrival, RCMP were notified by EMS that the man was pronounced dead on scene.

Highway 1 was shut down for over 5 hours while the Collision Investigation Team looked into the incident.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said that the driver stayed on scene and that alcohol was not a factor.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
