With 2017 fading in the rearview mirror, Airdrie's MLA took time to reflect on the year that was.

Angela Pitt said when she thinks about 2017, she sees it as a year marked by unity among Alberta conservatives.

"A very historical thing happened where the Wildrose and the PC party united as one with a 95 percent approval rating from its members in an effort to defeat the NDP in the next election."

Pitt said the UCP will now use 2018 to further solidify the party's identity.

She also said the last session saw two wins for the UCP in the passing of private members bills.

"One in particular was the Adoption Act passed by the MLA from Chestermere-Rocky View Leela Aheer, who updated legislation here in Alberta to make it easier for the adoption process to take place."

Pitt also thinks the current government proved through legislation in 2017 that they were out of touch with everyday Albertans.

Looking ahead to 2018, Pitt said she is excited for a newly elected MLA to take his seat in the legislature.

"Jason Kenney, of course, won a seat just recently in the Calgary-Lougheed by-election, so we're going to have our leader in the house. I think it will be really interesting to see the debate between Jason Kenney and Premier Rachel Notley."

Pitt also indicated that she will be introducing her own private members bill this year, and hopes it's successful.
