On Sunday (October 8), Airdrie RCMP arrested a 26 year old Calgary man who now faces numerous charges related to dangerous driving, possession of stolen property and possession of drugs.

Airdrie RCMP and Provincial Sheriffs were notified of a man driving erratically in a stolen BMW on Highway 2. Cst. Dan Martin said that as the vehicle entered Airdrie, members of the RCMP and a Sheriff located the vehicle on Railway Avenue.

"They made attempts to stop the vehicle. The vehicle headed toward Eighth Street and took off northbound at a high rate of speed, so members let the vehicle go just for safety purposes."

Later that day, police received a tip from the public that helped them locate the stolen BMW behind the Willowbrook Drive Apartment complex.

"A concerned citizen reported a suspicious vehicle. They located the vehicle. The suspect was inside, and the suspect tried to run away from the vehicle but was apprehended and arrested."

After a search, police discovered the man was in possession of 60 grams of crack cocaine packaged for distribution.

The Calgary man has now been charged with operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, possession of stolen property, possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of failing to comply with recognizance, dangerous driving and driving while unauthorized. The man has been remanded into custody. Cst. Martin said the man's identity could not be revealed as the charges have not yet been sworn. A date for the man's court appearance was not provided to the media.
