Airdrie Rural RCMP are looking for witnesses that might be able to shed light on a road rage incident that took place Tuesday evening (November 28) on Highway 72 east of Highway 2.

"The male victim is an elderly male," said Cst. Dan Martin. "When I say elderly male, he was over 65 years old. He was driving eastbound on Highway 72. A newer model Chevy Silverado truck passed him, and this truck was driving somewhat erratically which included brake checks."

Cst. Martin said the elderly man had no desire to get involved with the driver of the truck, and pulled over to allow the Silverado to drive away. Instead, the Silverado stopped and reversed to where the elderly man had pulled over. The driver exited the truck and approached the elderly man in an obvious attempt to cause a confrontation.

"The victim put down his window in order to talk with the suspect and an assault took place. The victim was removed from the vehicle at some point and was knocked unconscious.

The victim sustained serious injuries but is expected to make a recovery.

Martin said at this point, they don't know what provoked the incident.

"The elderly man isn't aware of him doing anything wrong, so unless we speak with the suspect or possibly witnesses to find out the driving patterns of both persons, we don't know that at this point."

The male suspect is described as approximately 55 years old standing 5'7" tall with a stocky build and weighing approximately 200 pounds. He had a long grey or brown beard.

The victim was only able to describe the suspect vehicle as a newer model Chevrolet Silverado 1500. He did not obtain a license plate and was not able to describe the colour.
