Airdrie RCMP are investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Sunday (June 11) at the Co-op Wine Spirits Beer Store on Main Street South.

Just before 10:00pm during business hours, a lone man entered the store wearing a medical face mask.

"He grabbed a bottle of wine and went up to the counter," said Cst. Dan Martin, "There was nobody else in the store. There was an employee in the back and one cashier working. As soon as he approached the cashier, he demanded all the money that was in the till."

Martin says at that point, the man stated that he was carrying a weapon.

"When he approached the cashier, he demanded all the cash, saying he had a gun but he did not brandish a gun. No weapons were seen by the cashier."

The cashier complied with the man's demands and gave him an undisclosed amount of cash. Police believe the man fled on foot heading west from the store.

Due to the nature of the crime, RCMP Police Dog Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Services were called in to assist with the investigation.

The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 50 years old standing 5'8" tall with an average build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a light-coloured long sleeved button up shirt, black cap with a white symbol, dark jeans, and a medical face mask.
