Yesterday (June 19) at 10:40am, RCMP from Olds and Didsbury responded to a small aircraft crash at the Olds/Didsbury Airport. The plane crashed as it took off.

Upon arrival at the airport, the lone male pilot of the plane was discovered outside of the aircraft. He was treated at the scene by EMS before being taken to hospital in Calgary for further assessment.

The case has been taken over by Transport Canada, who will work with the Olds detachment to investigate the crash. Alcohol and drugs were not factors, and weather conditions are still being looked at as a possible cause of the crash.

The name of the pilot is not being released at this time.
