A new Mainstreet poll released today (February 21) showed overwhelming support for Conservative parties in Alberta.

According to the poll, if a Provincial election was held today, the Wildrose Party would win.

"Provincially the NDP are in third, with the Wildrose party in the lead, but as always the regional picture is very different," said Quito Maggi, President of Mainstreet Research, "Among decided and leaning voters, in Edmonton the NDP leads (43%) with the Wildrose in second, (26%); in Calgary the PCs lead (38%), with the NDP in second (26%), and outside the major urban centres the Wildrose Party dominates with 48% while the PCs take second place with 27%."

Airdrie MLA Angela Pitt, said the numbers are not entirely shocking.

"You know, it's not a surprise that most Albertans tend to lean towards a more Conservative type view."

The same poll showed that 54% of Albertans support a move to unite the Wildrose and PC parties. Pitt says in the Airdrie area, that number might even be higher.

"I would say that's probably even a little bit low in our area. Just in talking to people, there's sort of a larger movement towards unity than that fifty-four percent number."

The Mainstreet poll took answers from just over 2000 Albertans.
