A new Mainstreet Poll released today (February 23) shows what many suspect: Alberta's new carbon tax is not popular.

The poll is the second part of a survey of Alberta politics. According to the poll, 51% of Albertans say the carbon tax has had a major impact on their lives, while 42% say it has had a minor impact.

"It's Albertans who live outside major urban centres who are most likely to say that they have felt a major impact from the Carbon Tax (58%)," said Quito Maggi, President of Mainstreet Research.

The poll also showed that 64% of Albertans oppose the carbon tax, a number that is slightly down compared to a similar question asked by Mainstreet in December 2015. The majority of people outside of Calgary and Edmonton oppose the carbon tax.

The first part of the poll was released on Tuesday, and looked at party support among voters in Alberta.
