The Aquatic Centre at Genesis Place has had some closures today (January 31). According to manager Greg Lockert, the closure began the night before.

"Last night at about 6:45pm or somewhere around there, we had another severe contamination in the pool."

Crews quickly attended to the contamination.

"We have closed it down, completed a chlorine shock, and now we're just trying to bring the chemicals back down to a level where it is safe for the public to access it and also clean the water system out."

Lockert hoped the pool would be open in time for swim lessons later that afternoon, and said parents would be notified if swim lessons were cancelled.

In the meantime, the hot tub, dive tank and lane pool remained open.

Lockert said these severe contamination have been occurring too frequently, and he hopes residents of the city will stay home if they aren't feeling well.

"It is flu season, and if your child or yourself is not well or has had some form of diarrhea in the last 72 hours, you should not be visiting a public pool at that time."
