A power outage affected 1300 customers in Airdrie according to Fortis Alberta.

Alana Antonelli Communications Manager for Fortis Alberta says the outage was due to a pole fire caused by the accumulation of frost on the line.

"What happens is the insulator wears down on the pole and then the conductor acts like a match and it can lit, we have seen a few of this instances in our service area in the last couple of days."

The power outage started at 7:00 last night (April 16th) with most customer's power being restored around 8:00 p.m. Some customers were without power until closer to 11:00 pm so that the Fortis crews could conduct crucial repairs safely.

The Air 106.1 station was affected by the outage and was off the air for close to an hour.
