The year is 2065. Airdrie's population has grown to 211,112 and jobs have increased to 55,689.

Those numbers are what are anticipated for the city's growth over the next 49 years, based on a population projection presented at Monday (November 7) night's city council meeting.

In 2011, Dillon Consulting Limited conducted a projection, but the city wanted an update due to increased population growth, and asked the company to do a new assessment.

A projection was created using a baseline scenario that showed growth starting at 84,538 in 2025, 109,574 in 2035, 134,111 in 2045 and 168,448 in the year 2065.

An aggressive projection put the numbers much higher; 92,769 in 2025, 127,307 in 2035, 165,534 in 2045 and 211,112 in 2065.

The population and employment projections assume that the non-residential tax base will move towards the city's target of 25 per cent compared to it's current 16 per cent.
