If you're looking to get out and enjoy the summer, many are warning you that it might cost you more.

That's the belief from Airdrie's Conservative MP Blake Richards who says the Federal Liberals are doing a lot of damage to consumers as a result of smaller taxes.

"I kind of call it nickel and diming people to death. A lot of tax increases but not a big 'wow, here's a huge increase in tax'. It's hitting people in so many other ways, hoping that they won't notice."

However, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says there are other taxes that are especially hitting Airdrie and Alberta wallets.

"A lot of the Federal Liberal tax hikes are a bit of a buzz kill," says Alberta Director Paige MacPherson. "There are also Alberta tax hikes that are sort of compounding on top of what the Federal Liberals are bringing in."

MacPherson says the biggest of these taxes is the Provincial Carbon Levy, which will rise to $50 a tonne as a result of the measure introduced by the Liberals.

Although the Liberals did cut income taxes for the middle class, Richards believes all the other moves from the Government have made that cut ineffective.

"I know during the election, a lot of people who voted for the Liberals, voted for them because they heard this promise that somehow the middle class was going to be better off. Everybody I've talked to has said 'I haven't seen that materialize'. At the end of the day they're saying 'I guess I wasn't part of this middle class.'"

MacPherson agrees, saying that the income tax cut was good at the start but was seemingly undone by the other smaller taxes.

Some of the new taxes introduced by the Liberals include their excise tax on liquor which is expected to rise every year, and a tax that will be charged to those using a ride sharing service like Uber, with the Public Transit tax credit being cut.
