Airdrie bylaw officers hope residents of the city will help keep the city beautiful this winter by picking up after their pets.

"As we've kinda got our first real snowfall of the year, and it'll continue to build over winter," says Peace Officer Brad Tomlinson, "Staying on top of cleaning up defecation helps to avoid big issues come springtime when it thaws out again."

Cleaning up after your pets is not only a good idea, it's also mandatory under the Animal Control Bylaw. Failing to do so could result in a $350 fine.

Tomlinson says the city tries to ensure cleaning up is easy by making bags available along pathways.
