The Government of Alberta is reviewing the current Occupational Health and Safety system.

Minister of Labour Christina Gray made the announcement yesterday saying the current structure is out of date.

"Alberta workplaces and the nature of Albertans’ work have changed significantly during the past 40 years. We need to make sure the province’s laws and best practices are helping keep Albertans safe at work.”

The Occupational Health and Safety Act hasn't received a thorough review since 1976.

The review will look to clarify employer and worker responsibilities when it comes to OHS legislation as well as improve employee engagement in the system.

Gray says they're receiving feedback from Albertans and stakeholders from now until October 16th. You can find their survey through the Government's website.

The news of the review comes after a man from Olds died in a workplace accident early yesterday morning (August 16th).

RCMP say the man died while operating a piece of equipment at a hay plant east of the Village of Cremona. OHS is currently investigating that incident.
