The Airdrie RCMP arrested ten people last night (May 12) after receiving reports of multiple gunshots being fired in the King's Heights Community of Airdrie.

Constable Dan Martin says at approximately 10:45 pm members were dispatched to complaints of multiple gunshots that were fired in the area of Kingsmere Cove.  Martin explains, "Two vehicles, one being a white Mercedes SUV and the other a black Lincoln SUV got involved in a gunfight.  Airdrie RCMP descended on the scene and were able to locate the vehicles virtually chasing each other.  They ended up in the northeast area of Airdrie, along Highland Park Boulevard where they were stopped."

A high-risk vehicle arrest was conducted and the RCMP took ten people into custody without further incident.  Martin says one person had sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released.  He couldn't say whether or not the person had received gunshot wounds or if they came from something else.

The Special Tactical Operations Unit along with Police Dog Services were called out to try to locate any firearms.  Martin says a grid search was conducted and a loaded firearm was located in a ditch along Highland Park Boulevard and seized by the RCMP.

The Airdrie RCMP General Investigation Section and the RCMP Forensic Investigation Section are currently at several locations investigating the matter.

Martin couldn't say if any of the people who were arrested were from Airdrie and couldn't say if the incident was gang-related.

"We're hoping to be able to provide an update later this evening with further information on whether or not this was a targetted shooting and whether or not it was gang-related," he says.
