Police arrested a 41 year old man from Kindersley, Saskatchewan Thursday night (December 21) for uttering threats and forcible confinement.

Cst. Dan Martin explained police were made aware of a situation around 7:45pm.

"Airdrie RCMP received a call from a female that was inside a vehicle that was eastbound leaving the Airdrie area. She was scared for her safety and her life. The matter was considered quite high risk. There was complaints of threats being made and that she was being forcibly confined to the vehicle."

Police located the vehicle heading east in the Beiseker area and began following the vehicle to the Drumheller area. Officers from the Beiseker, Drumheller and Three Hills detachments, along with RCMP Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team, were deployed to assist and a high-risk plan was put into place.

Initially, the driver did not stop for police.

"Attempts to stop the vehicle with lights and sirens were negative. A spike belt was pre-deployed in a certain location, which was successful in deflating the tires and stopping the vehicle. The male suspect in the vehicle then cooperated with police and was removed and arrested."

The woman was escorted to safety, and no injuries were sustained by either person.

An investigation is ongoing. Charges are pending and police are not releasing additional information besides the man's age and where he's from.
