Airdrie RCMP said they’ve been receiving several phone calls recently from people wondering if there are restrictions about travelling in vehicles.

“There is a misconception out there that the RCMP is pulling over vehicles when there is more than one person in a vehicle and charging them a significant amount of money in fines for doing this during this pandemic. That is not true,“ explained Corporal Gina Slaney.

On March 31, the Office of the Justice and Solicitor General for Alberta reaffirmed their position through the direction provided by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of health.

"If you are not under mandatory self-isolation, you will not be fined for travelling in your vehicle with your family or carpooling with coworkers” Dr. Deena Hinshaw stated. “However, if you are feeling unwell, you must stay home."

There are restrictions on mass gatherings and businesses. Those who observe members of the public or businesses not following the public health measures put in place by Alberta Health are encouraged to file a complaint with Alberta Health (click HERE for the form). Those complains are not supposed to go through RCMP.

Airdrie RCMP is reminding the public to be mindful of social and physical distancing and stay home if you can.
