RCMP detachments in Didsbury and Sunre teamed up with the Airdrie-based Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Team to arrest a pair of suspects who were in possession of stolen identification, a stolen credit card along with ammunition and a loaded sawed-off shotgun.  

On September 2nd, RCMP members from the three units located a truck that had fled from Didsbury RCMP the previous day at a motel in Sundre.  The investigation determined a female and male that were associated with the truck had used a stolen Alberta Drivers Licence to check into the motel. 

When the two exited the motel they were arrested without incident.   Police then executed a search warrant on the motel room and located the stolen identification and credit card, plus the ammunition and the loaded shotgun

36-year-old Ashley Zielke of Red Deer has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Flight from police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Theft of credit card
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Fail to comply with probation order (x2) 
  • Possess weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possess firearm with tampered serial number
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm

Zielke was released from custody following a Judicial Interim Hearing and is scheduled to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on September 21st.  

The male suspect, 30-year-old Derik McCorriston of no fixed address has been charged with:

  • Possess weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possess firearm with a tampered serial number
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm 

Following a Judicial Interim Hearing, McCorriston was also released from custody.  He is scheduled to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on October 4th.  

The Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit is headquartered at the Airdrie RCMP detachment.  The unit is comprised of eight regular members as well as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst and an Administrative Unit Support Clerk.

The unit covers an area running from Lake Louise, Sundre, Olds, Three Hills, Drumheller, Hanna, and Oyen in the north all the way to the U.S. border.
