Didsbury RCMP are looking into what caused a crash on Highway 2 that left a Red Deer man dead.

At around 1:00am on Wednesday (July 5), RCMP responded to a call of a collision on northbound Highway 2 involving a semi and minivan.

Cpl. Curtis Peters with the RCMP explains what took place.

"Our officers from Didsbury responded to a 911 call reporting a collision on Highway 2 between a semi tractor trailer that was parked on the side of the road and a minivan."

The driver of the minivan and lone occupant, a 59 year old man from Red Deer, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi did not sustain any injuries.

Cpl. Peters they're still looking into what may have caused the crash.

"We'll continue to investigate and to determine all the causes of the collision "
