A Collision involving an 8 year old girl on the first day of school is prompting RCMP to ask drivers and pedestrians to be careful.

Cst. Dan Martin with Airdrie RCMP explains what happened after school on September 5th.

"A mother and her 8 year old daughter were attempting to cross Luxstone Blvd, on a crosswalk, when a small car exiting the St. Martin De Porres High School collided with the young female. Thank goodness there were no injuries."

The driver of the vehicle was given a ticket for failing to yield to the pedestrian at the crosswalk.

RCMP say that with school in full swing, everyone needs to be careful.

"Police just want to remind citizens to slow down, keep an eye out for pedestrians," says Cst. Martin, "We want pedestrians to be aware that vehicles are moving quite quickly, they take time to slow down...make use of crosswalks, crosswalk lights. Make sure that the coast is clear before they step onto the street."
