After a relatively brief blast of arctic air, Airdrie can expect a strong chinook this week.

Airdrie is expecting one more blast of arctic air on Wednesday before a southwest chinook blows through bringing warm and dry temperatures.

Kyle Fougere, Meteorologist with Environment Canada says the cold temperatures Wednesday will be brief.

"We got a low-pressure system that will move through Wednesday with a strong cold front and it will be very noticeable when the winds shift to the north and this arctic air comes down, it's going to be cold on Thursday morning but it will heat up in the afternoon."

The arctic air is expected to leave fast and give us above seasonal temperatures for the weekend.

"This time the air doesn't stick around long and then we will get a southwest chinook that will clear out and the arctic air and bring us warm weather for the weekend."

Environment Canada is also expecting the rest of the winter to be relatively mild.

"January is typically the coldest month in Alberta but so far this month we have been above normal temperatures, we are expecting cycles of brief cold air followed by warm air for the rest of winter."
