The City of Airdrie rolled out their results of the 2015 Family and Community Support Services Funding (FCSS) late last week.

Twelve preventable social programs received funding, totaling over $898,000 that came from the province, the city, and the federal government.

Cathy O’Donoghue, Social Planning Coordinator with the City of Airdrie said that the 12 social programs were able to support 145 programs that assisted many individuals in the community.

“We funded our agencies for 12 programs; Community Links, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Airdrie Food Bank, Airdrie and District Victim Assistance Society, and Meals on Wheels.”

With the success of the programs, O’Donoghue said that this year they were able to increase funding to support more programs and look forward to an even more plentiful budget for 2017.

A total of 10,979 people took advantage of the 145 programs in 2015, with number growing year over year.

O’Donoghue said that this year they have been able to add funding for three additional programs, including a community kitchen through the food bank, an anti-bullying program in the schools, as well a welcome to Airdrie program.
