Alberta Premier Rachel Notley made an announcement this morning (May 18th) at an Orphaned Oil Well near Carstairs.

The Premier was joined by Energy Minister Margaret McQuiag-Boyd and Brad Herald, Chair of the Orphaned Wells Association.

The announcement today surrounded a $235 Million loan that will be put to help reclaim lands currently occupied by abandoned or inactive oil sites across the Province.

This loan is expected to be payed off over the next ten years and is partly financed by $30 Million of funding that came from the 2017 Federal Budget.

Premier Notley said that the loan will open up close to 1700 new jobs that could star as early as this summer.
