Earlier this week, the Federal Liberals introduced the Passenger Rights Bill, to make air travel less stressful.

The Bill came after an incident on a United Airlines flight in Chicago, where a passenger was dragged off an aircraft after refusing to give up his seat on an overbooked flight.

The new Bill will ensure that no passenger is bumped from a flight against their will from a Canadian Airline. It will also look at compensation for lost bags or anyone choosing to give up their seat on a flight.

Here in Airdrie, local Conservative MP Blake Richards says he'll be reviewing this bill intently.

"What I'll be looking for is to see, does it strike a balance between consumer rights and of course, making sure that we're being fair to anyone in the industry."

While Richards believes the Bill is necessary, he's curious on whether the Liberal Party will use it as a distraction from their future policies.

"I wonder a little bit...questioning the motives on that because we've got the Liberal Government looking at trying to potentially sell off our airports and of course they're imposing a carbon tax which is going to increase the cost of travel for everybody."

The Bill was introduced to the House of Commons on May 16th and will hopefully come into effect in 2018.
