Rocky View County Council has appointed a new County Manager, even if it's just on an interim basis.

Rick McDonald, who brings nearly 40 years of extensive public and private sector leadership experience in various fields to the role, has been appointed to the position.

McDonald has provided Chief Administrative Officer services throughout his career including time with Yellowhead County, Saddle Hills County, Westlock County, the Town of Grande Cache, the City of Cold Lake, the Town of Olds, and, most recently as City Manager in Lloydminster.  He holds certification in local government administration from the University of Alberta and is a Certified Management Consultant.

McDonald has sound knowledge and broad experience in working with aboriginal groups, Metis communities, health regions, community services, and municipal and senior government agencies, including environment, resource development, municipal affairs and agriculture.

McDonald will serve as County Manager while the Rocky View Council continues to recruit to find someone to fill the role on a permanent basis, a search that's expected to take several months.

The County Manager's position has been vacant since March 27th, 2018.  Kent Robinson has been acting Manager but will now return to his position as General Manager.
