For the second straight day, the City of Airdrie is under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Environment Canada issued the alert Tuesday morning for Airdire and nearby communities in Rocky View and Mountain View County.

They include Cochrane, Bottrel, Madden, Crossfield, Carstairs, Sundre, Olds and Didsbury.

Meteorologists say showers and thunderstorms are moving into parts of western Alberta Tuesday morning, which could produce lightning and tornadoes.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for thunderstorms to develop that could produce large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall.

Tuesday's forecast is calling for chances of thundershowers throughout the day, clearing before Wednesday morning.
