The Airdrie Food Bank's annual Shamrock Shimmy is only ten days away on March 18 at the Town and Country Centre.

Quinn Donaldson, the General Manager of the Food Bank, says this fundraiser is an important one on their calendar.

"It will have a huge impact. The funds raised give us the ability to purchase what we need to purchase and those types of things. This community continues to amaze us with their support."

Donaldson says that the community always shows up for these types of events, and that generosity is what allows the Food Bank to continue to function as well as it does.

"We have an amazing community here in Airdrie, and they always come out and they're always supporting us. This event just helps us to supplement programs. We are continuing to grow and get busier here at the Food Bank."

Donaldson said that over the last two years, there has been an increase in traffic at the Food Bank. The majority of donations come in during the Christmas season, and with the increase, there is some question about whether those Christmas donations will run out earlier than usual. Donaldson said for that reason, the Shamrock Shimmy is really well timed.

"Spring and summer tend to really slow down in terms of donations for us, so it's a good time to offer an event like this and to raise some funds, and then that can be used when we do need to purchase items, whether it's a protein item or those types of things."

The Shamrock Shimmy will feature a dinner, dance and auction. All money raised goes to programs and services at the Airdrie Food Bank.
