Heading west from Sierra Springs can be a headache, but that won't be the case much longer.

Bob Neale, Capital Projects and Infrastructure Manager with the City of Airdrie, says work to put a left hand turn lane at the intersection of Yankee Valley Boulevard and Sierra Springs Drive will begin soon.

"Within a week to ten days, that should be up and going, and the target for completion should be around that end of September timeline."

Neale says the nature of the work should only have a small impact on traffic in that area while the project is underway.

"Most of the work will be outside the traffic lanes. There may be an occasional lane closure. We'll try to do that work in off-peak times so that there'll be a minimal amount of traffic disruption."

The Province granted the project back in April and Neale said that the new left hand turn lane should play a role in alleviating traffic backups on Yankee Valley Boulevard.
