Expect to see Jason Spratt's name on the ballot for Ward 3 Trustee when you go to vote on October 16. Spratt is one of five candidates seeking the three Rocky View Trustee seats available in Airdrie.

Spratt said he was prompted to run as he got more and more involved with his children's activities.

"With that, I started attending parent council and then school board meetings as well to see how things were run, and I believe I have a voice that will bring a new perspective to the position of trustee."

Spratt believes he offers an outsider's perspective on education, since he has never worked in the school system and has not held an elected position before.

"I see a need for someone with my voice to be heard. Someone who isn't directly connected with the education system in the past, but can help people look at it from the outside."

Spratt outlined three priorities in this election.

"My platform is going to revolve around transportation, alternative programs and mental health. Those are the three priorities that I'm going to focus on."

Spratt said he has new ideas regarding transportation in the school division, but would not provide details at this time. Spratt said he did bring his suggestions to the current board, but was too late in presenting them.

Spratt also said he would like more information available to parents regarding mental health and options for students that need additional help. He'd also like to see alternative programs offered at individual schools offered on a wider basis so that schools can learn from one another.

Spratt plans to go door to door over the coming month to hand out flyers and engage in face to face conversations with voters.
