Nearly 10,000 votes were cast by Airdrie students last week as they held their own municipal elections through Student Vote.

10 Airdrie schools participated in the vote this year with CW Perry leading the pack, casting nearly 4000 votes. Muriel Clayton had the second most with just over 2000 votes cast.

Students gave their pick for Mayor and City Council, with some results on par with the official elections results and some different.

Peter Brown was chosen by the majority of students for Mayor with 915 votes, followed by Fred Burley at 277.

The top council candidate was Ron Chapman with 466 votes, followed not that far behind by Mo Benini at 439.

Darrell Belyk, Kelly Hegg, Lindsay Coyle and Shelley Bitz rounded out the rest of the council choice for the students.

CIVIX, who organizes the Student Vote program says that over 80,000 Elementary and High School students in Alberta participated this year.
